Prayer

I created an Icebreaker for new groups.

Time: 20-30 minutes

Action: write, draw, document

Consider: That getting a new group of people centered together can be difficult, and that one of the most difficult things for a new group to do together is PRAY.  So, in new settings I invite people to write their prayer requests on a large post it note and we take turns writing our prayers (in private and in silence).  These are shared anonymously and become the prayers of the group.

I suggest that each time the group gathers one member is invited to take the prayers with them.  Praying for the needs of the group for a time/season.

Leaders can then discuss their prayer life and offer ideas for “how to pray.”  Then we will pray the Lord’s Prayer:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

(Matthew 6:9-13 KJV)
