5 min reflection on one of the final phrases used by Jesus, “I am thirsty”

 

 

GOSPEL READING: Matthew 5: 14a,-16-17 (NIV) “You are the light of the world…  In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Have you ever been thirsty?

Imagine that you are thirsty and your friend has a glass of water.  What do you do? Do you ask for some…?

Okay, let’s look at that scenario again.  This time from another perspective.   Have you ever had a glass of water in your hand and you noticed your friend was thirsty?  What did you do?  Did you share your water?

Why is it so important to share my water with another?  What does it matter?   Well, maybe the little bit of water that you share is the ONLY thing that can quench their thirst.  Maybe they’ve never experienced a selfless act before today and because of you they finally SEE GOD’S LOVE.

That’s what Matthew 5: 14a,-16-17 (NIV) talks about.  Matthew gives us clear direction into what to do with the water that we each have.  SHARE IT…rather than looking at all the negatives that have happened in our lives, let’s see the positives and share that with others.

So let’s make a change, let’s look at our thirst as a thirst for light.  For energy.  For renewal.  For vitality.  For strength.  For all those things that we need in life in order to continue.

When I see another person is thirsty, instead of concentrating on my own thirst I will remember that “[I am] the light of the world…, [I will] let [my] light shine before others, that they may see [my] good deeds and glorify [my] Father in heaven.”

As you light someones candle say:  I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

And respond with: THROUGH MY LIGHT AND MY DEEDS MY FATHER IN HEAVEN IS GLORIFIED.
